Gedenkstätte Berlin-Hohenschönhausen is a memorial site furnished in the building of the main prison and the detention center of the Ministry of State Security of the GDR (commonly called Stasi). His collection consists of several thousand objects - photographs, documents, clothes and letters of prisoners. The largest exhibit is the "Grotewohl-Express" - the only surviving prisoner car used in the former GDR.
The selection of the collection is presented at the permanent exhibition, which shows how this place functions and the enormity of the apparatus of repression, which only in this one prison had more than 4,000. full-time officers. Currently, you can visit rooms related to their daily work - administration rooms, interrogation sites, prison cells and the prison director's office.
The museum constantly collects new exhibits - mainly documents, photographs and memories. The offer also includes numerous guided tours and meetings with former prisoners.
