The Great Pagoda is the largest Buddhist temple in Paris. It is located in the Wood of Vincennes, on Lake Daumesnil. It is the center of Buddhist religious life. The largest gold Buddha statue in Europe is located here, and since 2008, Buddha relics have been stored here.
The center is housed in buildings built for the 1931 Colonial Exhibition. Its center is a wooden pagoda with a high sloping roof, built on a cross plan. Inside, in a central point, there is a 9-meter-high golden Buddha statue. It is surrounded by galleries made of wood for the participants of the service.
In addition to the pagoda, the complex also includes a Buddhist temple decorated with traditional Tibetan carvings and decorations. The pagoda is clearly visible from Lake Daumesnil and is a recognizable feature of the Vincennes Forest landscape.
