The park is in the immediate vicinity of the Vincennes Castle. Its area - almost 1000 ha - makes it the largest green complex in the city and one of the largest city parks in the world.
There are 4 artificial lakes on the site, established in the 18th century. You can walk along special routes, take advantage of numerous bicycle paths or rent a boat. For younger tourists, the botanical and zoological gardens and the possibility of pony rides may be an interesting attraction.
The forest itself is a remnant of the forest that covered this area in ancient times. During the reign of Hugo Capet it was the favorite hunting place of the king and the court. In turn, Saint Louis IX, according to legend, personally judged his subjects in the forest. During the French Revolution, this place was adapted for military purposes, and in 1900 part of the Olympic Games was held here.
