Arena de Lutece is the only visible monument next to Term Cluny from Roman times in Paris. The amphitheater located in the Latin Quarter was built at the turn of the first and second century. The round, sanded stage is surrounded by stone steps for sitting.
The arena is a public place. It is used for outdoor performances and small events. In the past, the amphitheater was much larger and had higher stands. It could contain up to 15,000 people. Shows were played here and gladiator fights were presented.
Currently, the amphitheater has a stage and place for actors. Next to it is a small lapidarium, where architectural elements unearthed during archeological works have been collected.
