Botanical Garden
Local name: Jardin des Plantes
Jardin des Plantes is the oldest botanical garden in Paris. It has been operating since the 17th century. It consists of several smaller gardens, where you can see, among others, rock plants from the Alps and the Himalayas, tropical plants accumulated in greenhouses or medicinal herbs.
The garden was created in 1625 on the order of Louis XIII. Initially, it was only a royal herbarium, from which doctors obtained herbs needed for various medical products. Already in the mid-seventeenth century, the garden was opened to visitors. It is a typical French park, surrounded by tall, trimmed hedges of trees. Inside there are equal discounts with plants. There are also three greenhouses and a rock garden. The Jardin des Plantes also has a small zoo and Natural History Museum.
