La Plagne-Tarentaise is a commune in the French Alps, which is known primarily as a winter sports center. It lies in a valley and the surrounding mountain ridges are a great place for hiking in summer.
The commune's area extends from a height of 600 to 2700 m above sea level. This gives a great diversity of landscape. In the lower parts of the valley, fruit trees are of great importance. In La Côte-d'Aime you can visit a small eco-museum dedicated to fruit growing and the production of fruit preserves.
In the village of Valezan lying slightly higher, you can see the baroque church of St. Francis and traditional stone houses characteristic of the region. Around the village there are mountain meadows, through which numerous walking trails lead.
However, what attracts the most tourists to La Plagne-Tarentaise are the local ski slopes. At La Plagne Ski Resort you can use over 200 km of perfectly prepared ski slopes of various levels of difficulty. There are also cross-country skiing trails, and in summer over 100 km of hiking and trail trails.
The skiers are located in the valley of the village. They have a large number of hotels, guesthouses and apartments for rent. There is no shortage of restaurants, and in winter there are numerous events that fill the time of skiers after their stay on the slopes.
