Gruissan is a seaside town in the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Regional Park. It has a sandy, wide beach and traditional fishing buildings, and the ruins of a medieval castle rise above the houses.

The settlement was founded at the foot of a castle built in the 10th century, called the Barbarossa Tower. Only fragments of the walls and the defensive tower have survived to this day. The stronghold stands on a high rock and is a great vantage point over the coast and the whole area.

The traditional fishing village of Gruissan is centered around the port and marina. Both fishermen's boats and yachts and tourist boats are moored here. The buildings are low, very compact with narrow streets. The further away from the center, the more contemporary houses, including numerous holiday flats and apartments. Tourists are attracted here by the wide, sandy beach, peace and relaxation from the crowds.

The areas around Gruissan are very attractive in terms of landscape. The Narbonnaise en Méditerranée regional park is located here. It includes coastal lakes and low, coastal mountains with a height of several hundred meters above sea level. They are overgrown with meadows and pine forests, and numerous water and mud birds live at the lakes.
