Vordingborg is a city that experienced its heyday from the 12th to the 14th centuries. It was then one of the royal seats and was one of the most important centers in Denmark. The ruins of the royal castle are the traces of its former glory.

The city was founded at the beginning of the 12th century by King Waldemar I and is thus one of the oldest in the country. Until the 15th century, it was the seat of the Danish parliament. There was also a castle where the Danish kings spent much of the year. It was also a base for expeditions to the territories of the Slavs, including the island of Rügen.

Today, a reminder of these times and the most important attraction of Vordingborg are the ruins of Vordingborg Castle with the completely preserved round Goose Tower. The castle now houses the Archaeological Museum and the Danmarks Borg Center. In the city, you can also visit the Church of Vordingborg, the Museum of Southeast Denmark and the Oringe Psychiatric Museum.

Due to its location on the Storstrømmen that separates the islands of Zelandie and Falster, the city was also of strategic importance in the past. Currently, there is the Storstrøms Bridge and Masnedsund Harbor, where yachts and pleasure boats can moor. Along the shore is the sandy Ore Beach, which is filled with sunbathers in summer and is also used for walks.
