Næstved is a tourist and historic city in Zealand. With a rich history, many examples of Gothic architecture, a magnificent rococo palace and one of Denmark's most popular amusement parks, it is one of the most visited destinations in the country.
The Old Town of Næstved mainly dates from the 14th century, although you can also find older buildings here, its main monument is the Gothic Church of St. Peter, whose origins date back to the thirteenth century. Inside, medieval wall paintings have been preserved. King Valdemar IV and his wife.
There is also a Gothic church of St. Martin's Church and the brick Helligåndshuset from the same period, which now houses the Næstved Museum. Thanks to the well-preserved Gothic Old Town with churches, a 15th century town hall and numerous tenement houses, Næstved is on the European Route of Brick Gothic.
One of the most important attractions of Næstved is the rococo Gavnø Palace, surrounded by Pak Gavnø. In its interiors you can see, among others a rich collection of paintings from the period from the Middle Ages to the 19th century and the well-preserved Castle Chapel. There is a butterfly house imitating a tropical forest in the park.
Næstved also offers many other attractions. The most famous of them is one of Denmark's largest amusement parks, BonBon Land. You can also visit the historic Holmegaard art glass factory and the Kähler ceramics workshop.
