The Prague City Museum is housed in a neo-Renaissance building and is dedicated to the history of the Czech capital. The exhibition was divided into the following sections: Prague in prehistory, Medieval Prague, Prague at the turn of the Middle Ages and modern times, Baroque Prague. There is also a 3D cinema here and a department created for children.
The museum was founded in 1881. The main task of the museum was to collect and purchase monuments related to the history of Prague. Originally, the museum was located in a small café pavilion, but over time this building turned out to be insufficient for the needs of the museum. So it was decided to build a new building.
It was supposed to be bigger and more representative. The neo-Renaissance building was built in the years 1896-1888, its official opening took place two years later. The architects Antonin Wiehl, Jan Koula and Antonin Balšánek are responsible for the building design. The building of the Prague City Museum is a two-story building with two side wings.
