Mercury's Fountain is a late baroque standing sculpture depicting the Roman god of trade and craft. It belongs to a group of seven fountains, which stood in Olomouc at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Fountains were part of the system supplying drinking water to the city. Mercury's fountain was erected in 1727. The author of the sculpture was Filip Sattler. In his work, experts see Bernini's influences and consider her the most valuable artistically of all Olomouc fountains. Mercury was depicted with his head raised. He stares at the caduceus in his hand. It stands on a rock, around which are placed the heads of dragons, from which water flows out.
