St. Barbara's Temple
Local name: Chrám svaté Barbory
The church of Saint Barbara in Kutna Hora is a Gothic temple inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today, inside you can admire examples of sacred art from different periods, including 16th-century tabernacle and frescoes referring to the tradition of Kutna Hora (mining, coinage).
Over the centuries, the building underwent many changes, including during the period when it was managed by the Jesuits. A major reconstruction, this time in the neo-Gothic style, took place in the nineteenth century. The historic triptych and stained glass windows by František Urban come from this time.
The author of the temple design was Johann Parler. Its construction began in the second half of the fourteenth century at the initiative of local miners, it was interrupted by the Hussite wars, work resumed at the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. A chapel of Corpus Christi was built in front of the church, inside it you can admire Gothic vaults.
