KARLOVY VARYCzechia
The ruins of the Church of St. Linhart
Local name: Zřícenina kostela sv. Linhart
The ruins of the church of Saint Leonard are the oldest monument of Karlovy Vary. From the Romanesque, 13th-century church, only the lower part of the perimeter walls has survived to our times.
The church was built in 1256. Later, a small side room was added to it, which most probably served as a morgue. The last mention of the temple appears in the sixteenth century. Archaeological research and protection of ruins was carried out in the years 1989–1992.
The church walls form a rectangle with sides 12.5 and 10 meters. In place of the altar, a stone table was placed to symbolize it. The ruins are a popular place for walks.
