Egon Schiele Art Center
Local name: Centrum Umění Egon Schiele
The Austrian artist Egon Shiele is the most important figure in the history of art of Český Krumlov. The painter lived here for several dozen years, and now in the Renaissance brewery there is an exhibition of his works covering landscapes, city views, nudes and abstract paintings.
Egon Schiele is one of the most important European expressionists. He lived at the turn of the century. He died just 28 years old during the Spanish epidemic. Schiele lived very briefly in Krumlov. His scandalous lifestyle turned out to be too controversial for the residents. He was thrown out of the city by them.
Currently, Egon Schiele Gallery in Český Krumlov has the world's largest collection of his works. These are paintings showing a cross-section of his work, which was inspired by the works of the Viennese Art Nouveau, including Gustav Klimt, who was his patron for some time. In the Renaissance interiors of the old brewery, you can admire the landscapes and nudes, with their colorful and bold lines.
