The astronomical observatory and planetarium in České Budějovice is a scientific research institution also conducting educational activities in the field of astronomy. Sky shows, open observations and popular science classes for adults and teenagers are held here.
The observatory was founded in 1937. It is the second oldest institution of this type in the Czech Republic. In 1971, a cinema room for sky shows was opened there. Currently, the planetarium with a capacity of 70 people shows presentations about the solar system, planets and stars. The observatory dome observations of the night sky are organized. Schools can also participate in lectures and workshops on astronomy.
