BÍTOV tourist attractions

+1 attraction

Bítov is a small village on the Dyje River, surrounded by picturesque hills, not far from the imposing riverside slope. It is known primarily for its romantic castle, which dates back to the Middle Ages.

The town is one of the oldest in this region. It was founded in the 11th century by the Přemyslids, and in later centuries it was owned by the Lichtenburg family. It is thanks to her that the former medieval stronghold on the escarpment on the Dyje river has become one of the most important aristocratic residences in the country.

Bitov Castle is beautifully situated on the high bank of Dyje. It owes its present appearance to a romantic reconstruction in the 19th century. In addition to well-preserved interiors, the castle houses a unique exhibition of stuffed dogs that belonged to the last owner of the residence, Baron George Haas of Haasenfels.
