Chateau Jaromerice nad Rokytnou
Local name: Zámek Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou
Jaromerice nad Rokytnou Castle is one of the largest Baroque buildings in Central Europe. The three-winged palace is connected to the castle's chapel covered with a high dome. The whole is preserved in very good condition. In the interiors you can see baroque and classical furniture, musical instruments, books, toys and other items of equipment.
The present appearance of the castle is the work of a great reconstruction carried out by Count Jan Adam Questenberg. Work on the reconstruction of the earlier Renaissance castle was carried out in the years 1700-1737. The owner was a known patron of the arts. There was a theater, orchestra and band of singers at the castle. A large collection of paintings and sculptures was also collected here. The organist in the castle chapel was Antonín Míča, the creator of the first Czech opera, about the Jaromeric foundation. It premiered at the castle.
The three-story palace has a facade divided by regular cornices. The side wings are open towards the garden. Adjacent to the main body is a chapel with four-sided towers, covered with a dome. Inside, original furnished rooms have survived, such as the dining room, music rooms with period instruments, the Oriental Chinese Room, a ballroom and Roman baths. There is also an exhibition of toys from the 18th and 19th centuries. Utility rooms and kitchen are also available for visitors.
