Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Zagreb (Saborna crkva Preobraženja Gospodnjeg) was built in the 18th century, belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is famous for its beautiful iconostasis (wall covered with icons) by the Romanian painter Epimananondas Bučevski.
In the place of today's church there was previously a Catholic church of St. Margaret from the fourteenth century. It was demolished due to the very poor condition of the facade, which threatened to collapse the building. The new Orthodox temple was built here in the eighteenth century, its present appearance is due to the reconstruction and modernization of the late nineteenth century, based on the plans of Herman Bolle.
In 2010, the church became the target of an attack by members of the fascist group - Ustasze. On its facade appeared slogans that called for violence against Serbs, as well as symbols of the Croatian fascist movement.
