The Stone Gate (Kamenita vrata) in Zagreb has the shape of a rectangular tower, it is the only gate that has survived to this day from the old city walls surrounding Gradec (the historic part of the city). In the passage there is the chapel of the Mother of God from Kamienna Brama.
The image is stored in the chapel, considered by the faithful to be wonderful. One legend says that the fire that broke out in this part of the city in the second half of the 18th century was mysteriously extinguished when the flames reached the frame of the picture. The images of Mary and Baby which she holds in her hand were decorated with crowns.
The gate was built in the 13th century, its current shape is the result of an 18th-century reconstruction. It survived the city's bombing during World War II. She also avoided demolition and was protected from the members of the Society of the Croatian Dragon Brothers, whose headquarters is now in a historic room on the upper floor of the tower.
