Schubert's Birth House is a small tenement house in which on January 31, 1797 Franz Schubert was born, who later became one of the most famous composers in the world. Today, the entire first floor of the building is occupied by a museum, where visitors can learn about the early period of Schubert's life. The museum also has an exhibition of paintings by the Austrian artist Adalbert Stifter.
In several rooms we will see family souvenirs, personal items such as Schubert's famous glasses, as well as various documents, including school certificates of little Franz. In addition, the museum has in its collection portraits of the composer and his musical instruments.
In 1797 this building was located in the village near Vienna, but now this area is already within the city limits. The Schubert family lived in a flat consisting of one large room and kitchen in which little Franz was born, but the existing museum occupies most of the building.
