The museum was founded in 1971 and is entirely devoted to the life history of the creator of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. It houses the largest library of psychoanalytical research in Europe and the Freud Foundation Research Institute.
The exhibition includes original items belonging to the scientist and fragments of the extensive collection of his antiques. Some rooms were genuinely inhabited by a psychologist. There is even a waiting room for his private practice. In addition, it houses an archive containing documents, photographs, paintings, drawings, including almost all existing photos of Freud and his wife, Anna Freud. The psychoanalyst has lived here since 1891.
