FestungsBahn is the name of the cable car that goes to the Festungsberg mountain and is the primary means of communication leading to the fortress of Hohensalzburg, one of the most popular sights in Salzburg. The line is 191 meters long and the maximum slope of the route is 62%. The vehicles travel at an average speed of 5.5 meters per second, and the cable car ride to the top of the hill takes about one minute.
The queue has a very long history, dating back to the second half of the nineteenth century. She started running for the first time in 1892. Since then, it has been modernized several times: in the 1960s, 1970s and 1990s, and for the last time in 2011. At that time vehicles with panoramic windows were installed, which give passengers a perfect view of the city.
