Dorez Fortress is a castle located in Dorez, a town in central Albania. Its creation dates back to the 9th century BC, so it is the oldest monument in the Tirana district. The ruins of the building stand on a hill, 479 meters above sea level. After a short climb to the castle hill, tourists can admire the remains of the fortress and a beautiful view of the mountain range, Tirana in the distance and the coast.
The stone fortress is located 20 kilometers southwest of Tirana. The first archeological expedition in this place took place in 1951. It was discovered that the castle structure had three phases. First a raw stone was erected, then carved blocks without mortar were placed in the Hellenistic period. The third phase of construction was associated with the addition of crushed stone in the 4th-6th century AD.
The fortress in Dorez is not a very popular tourist attraction, so it is worth seeing a forgotten castle, which is a kind of jewel towering over the surrounding area. Inhabited for several centuries, the castle is a monument of great historical, cultural and military importance.
