Durdle Door

Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast. At the highest point, it measures just over 60 meters. It was formed during the Jurassic period, probably 140 million years ago, under the influence of erosive action of water on rocks. You can see the imprinted shapes in the form of arches of various sizes, these are preserved fossils of the forest and animals existing here millions of years ago. The place is located on the South West Coast Path tourist trail.

The name of the bow most likely comes from the Old English word "thril", which meant "drill" or "drill." In turn, "door" or "door" refers to the shape of the arch. The first written mention of this place comes from a map from 1811, where the arch was designated Dirdale Door. Different forms of writing appear on maps from the 19th century, such as "Duddledoor", "Durdle" or "Dudde Door".
