Well Hall Pleasaunce
Well Hall Pleasaunce is a large park opened in 1933 - a picturesque combination of tall trees, extensive lawns, gardens and ponds. In its center is Tudor Barn - a brick barn, which was built around 1525. Currently, it houses a restaurant and a banquet hall, rented mainly for the organization of wedding receptions.
Other testimonies of the park's rich history include the medieval bridge and moat surrounding the Tudor Barn - a remnant of the Well Hall household, from which the park derives its name. It is believed that William Roper and his wife Margaret More, daughter of Thomas More, the author of the famous "Utopia, lived here.
In Well Hall Pleasaunce there is a bowling alley and two noteworthy gardens - a rock garden and an Italian garden existing since the 18th century, in which the house was located until 1930. Edith Nesbit lived there for over 20 years - author of popular children's novels. One of the park walking routes now bears her name.
