Maryon Wilson Animal Park
Maryon Wilson Animal Park is a small zoo in which a dozen or so animal species live, including sheep, ducks, rabbits, goats and chinchillas as well as ponies and pigs. The park's decoration is a herd of fallow deer, probably derived from the first animals that were brought here by Spencer Maryon-Wilson in 1924, when the private park was made available to visitors.
Like many similar places, Maryon Wilson Animal Park creates the opportunity for close, safe contact with animals - both children and adults. Extensive meadows and lawns and tracts of high forest make the park a great place for active recreation.
The small zoo belongs to the Maryon Wilson Park area - in the past a large forest area known as Hanging Wood. Legend has it that the forest owed its name to local robbers who, after being captured, were hung without trial, using trees as gallows.
