The Household Cavalry Museum
The Household Cavalry Museum is a place dedicated to the unit intended for the personal protection of British rulers. It consists of The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards) and The Queen's Life Guard branches. The museum presents the history of the unit from 1661 to the present day. One of the most interesting places of the exhibition is a glass wall through which you can observe the preparation of horses and cavalrymen.
The exhibition has a rich collection of uniforms, armor and weapons, showing changes in uniforms over the centuries. The museum's offer includes trying on helmets and armor as well as bearskins, i.e. black fur hats. Some of them are 100 or older - they are passed on between generations of guardsmen.
The museum also conducts educational classes during which you can change into a complete cavalryman's outfit, learn the rules of barracks life and drill. The museum store offers hundreds of gadgets related to this one-of-a-kind military unit.
