Serpentine Gallery
The Serpentine Gallery is one of two contemporary art galleries located in Kensington Gardens. The building in which it is located served as a tea pavilion and was built in the 1930s according to the design of James Gray West. At the entrance there is a permanent work devoted to Princess Diana, by Ian Hamilton Finlat and Peter Coates. In addition, most exhibitions are temporary. Works were exhibited here, including Henry Moore, Andy Warhol or Marina Abramović.
The gallery was founded in 1970. It is connected to the other, known as the Serpentine Sackler Gallery, located on the other side of the Serpentine Lake, from which their names originate. A bridge was built at the height of the buildings, thanks to which a five-minute walk is enough to go from one gallery to another. From the moment of its establishment until 2017 inclusive, the works of 2263 artists have been exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery.
