Leicester Square
Leicester Square is a square located in the West End, the so-called theater district. In its center is a small park that houses a nineteenth-century statue of William Shakespeare. At the four gates leading to the park, you can see monuments to figures such as Isaac Newton and John Hunter, considered a pioneer in surgery. The square has many cafes and bars, as well as eight cinemas, including Odeon Leicester Square, which was the first in Europe to have a digital projector.
Every year Leicester Square hosts the London Film Festival, which dates back to the 1950s. It was here that the world premieres of films about Harry Potter, Shrek, Avatar and Alice in Wonderland took place. During winter, a market is organized on the square and a stage is set up where performances related to, among others, take place. with the celebration of the Chinese New Year.
