The Royal London Hospital Museum

The Museum of the London Royal Hospital is located in the crypt of the nineteenth-century church. St. Philip. The collected exhibits present the history of the hospital since its founding in 1740 and the development of medicine in East London. At exhibitions you can see, among others equipment and uniforms used by hospital staff over the years. There is also a replica of the skeleton of Joseph Merric called the Elephant Man and exhibits dedicated to Jack the Ripper (teeth of one of the victims, photo of the letter sent to the police).

Other exhibitions are also devoted to outstanding figures who played a significant role in the development of British medicine, including Florence Nightingale. Particular emphasis is placed on medical workers associated with the hospital, such as Edith Cavell, Sir William Blizard and Eva Luckes.

The church, in whose crypt the museum is located, was built according to the design of Arthur Cawston. It currently houses the library of the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
