South London Gallery
The South London Gallery, or SLG for short, was founded at the end of the 19th century. Currently, it is one of the most active contemporary art exhibition centers in London. It has no permanent exhibition - it presents its collection and works imported from other institutions at temporary exhibitions. SLG was the first to show the scandalous work of Tracey Emin "Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963–1995".
SLG works with artists such as Ellen Gallagher, Gabriel Kuri, Rashid Johnson, Amie Siegel, Lawrence Weiner and Damien Hirst - the creator of a platinum skull studded with nearly nine thousand diamonds, which cost £ 14 million. The gallery also runs numerous educational activities and residential programs.
The SLG headquarters is a restored building from 1891, built in the then dominant Arts and Crafts style in Great Britain. SLG is considered one of the most progressive and at the same time the most elegant galleries of contemporary art in London.
