Vauxhall City Farm
Vauxhall City Farm is one of the oldest urban farms in London - a small farm in the center of a big city, which officially started operations in 1976. Currently, several dozen animals are raised here - chickens, ducks, rabbits, sheep, goats, pigs and horses. The farm runs a small stud and riding club, has its own garden and a small pond, organizes special events and ecological education.
The impetus for the creation of Vauxhall City Farm was the large-scale demolition of residential buildings, to which residents responded with spontaneous opposition. Various devastated youth and neighborhood initiatives began to arise in the devastated areas. One of them was a garden set up by ecologists, in which the first animals soon appeared. For several years, the initiative worked unofficially, and in 1977 it registered as a non-governmental organization.
Vauxhall City Farm has been based on volunteer work since its inception. It makes a living by making donations, organizing special events and renting animals for photo sessions, film sets and company events.
