Stephens House & Gardens
Stephens House & Gardens is from the mid 19th century Victorian building with a surrounding park. In 1874, Henry "Inky" Stephens, a British entrepreneur and philanthropist, purchased the house and property, who made a fortune on the patented "blue-black writing fluid" in 1832, a permanent ink. Before his death, he saved his house and park for public purposes. Currently, the property and the small Stephens family museum located there are open to the public.
The park and garden arrangement was created by Robert Marnock - one of the most respected 19th-century gardeners and landscape designers. The park has an arboretum, a rock and swamp garden, children's play areas and forest walking areas. A bronze bench with a life-size figure of Spike Milligan - Irish comedian, creator of the BBC comedy program "The Goon Show" was also set up in it.
The Stephens Collection is also noteworthy - a small museum located on the site, dedicated to the history of the Stephens family and their possessions as well as the production of ink and stationery.
