East Devon Area
East Devon has been included in the AONB, i.e. "An area of outstanding natural beauty." It is an area of about 260 km2, and includes narrow valleys, heaths and 29 km of coastline, including part of the Jurassic Coast. A significant part of it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Numerous walking, cycling and horse riding paths have been marked out here. You can also do water sports and fishing.
The first beaver colony in England has lived in East Devon for 400 years. You can also see large horseshoes, which are the rarest species of bats among the seventeen inhabiting the British Isles. In turn, Shute grows 800-year-old oak called the Oak of King Jan.
