Paignton Zoo and Botanical Garden
Paington Zoo is both a zoo and a botanical garden. Over 2,000 live in it. animals representing approx. 300 species, including wild cats, monkeys, elephants, snakes and numerous species of birds. The place was divided into zones: desert, tropical, forest, savanna and water birds. In each and every animal apart from them you can see plants characteristic for a given region and climate. The zoo also has a children's playground, restaurants and picnic areas.
The garden was founded in 1923, but a year later it was closed because the owner refused to pay entertainment tax. He argued that the zoo has educational functions, not entertainment. Since 1964, the institution has been operating as a charity. Several documentary programs were shot at the zoo, including "Creatures like us" for Animal Planet or "Zoo Keepers" for BBC.
