National Marine Aquarium
The National Marine Aquarium is the largest oceanarium in the United Kingdom. Individual zones reflect conditions from the shores of Plymouth and the British Isles, through the Atlantic Ocean, to ocean waters, including tropical coral reefs. Over 70 sharks from more than ten different species live here, as well as various species of jellyfish, rays, sea turtles and octopuses. In the Laboratory you can see how care for the younger generation of animals bred here.
The Oceanarium offers the possibility of renting the facility for children's birthday parties. It is also possible "Sleeping with sharks", or sleeping in a sleeping bag next to the largest tanks.
The National Marine Aquarium was opened in May 1998. It is a charity institution and its main goals are research, education and nature protection. Its employees managed the sinking project of the HMS Scylla frigate in 2004 to create an artificial reef in the Whitsand Bay in Cornwall.
