Craigievar Castle
Craigievar Castle dates from the 17th century and is distinguished by its distinctive pink color and architecture. The massive body of the building is topped with numerous, subtle towers and gargoyles. The castle has a total of seven floors. It can only be visited with a guide. Interestingly, artificial lighting is only available on the ground floor, which gives the tour a taste of time travel. Each trip lasts 45-60 min.
The castle has a Great Hall with the Stuartów coat of arms hanging above the fireplace. Secret, hidden stairs connect the Great Hall with the tower. During the tour, you can see a collection of portraits of the Forbes family and a significant number of Forbes furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries. The castle also has two original portraits of Henry Raeburn.
The somewhat fairy-tale appearance of the castle reportedly inspired Walt Disney's label to create a castle known from the Cinderella fairy tale.
