Glamis Castle
Glamis Castle is the hometown of Elizabeth, Queen Mother, mother of Elizabeth II. It is considered the most haunted of Scottish castles. The oldest part of the building comes from the 11th century, then it also had the form of a knight's tower. The present appearance of the property is mainly due to the reconstruction from the 17th century. There are gardens adjacent to the castle, with an arboretum with trees from all over the world, including many hundreds of years old. The castle can only be visited with a guide.
In the castle there is a small chapel with 46 seats. Apparently, one of them is always reserved for the White Lady, believed to be the ghost of Lady Glamis, Janet Douglas.
The most famous legend related to the castle tells of a deformed child called the Glamis Monster. It was to be kept in the castle for life, and its rooms were walled up after his death. An alternative version of the legend says that in each generation of the family, a vampire child is born who is walled up in this room.
