Belfast Castle

Belfast Castle, situated at an altitude of 120 meters above sea level in a picturesque place on the slope of Cavehill Mountain. It attracts tourists not only with a beautiful view of the city and Belfast Lough, but also with interesting history and original architecture. Within the castle walls we can visit a souvenir shop and a restaurant.

Initially, Belfast Castle was located in today's center of belfast. The original building was erected in the 12th century, and it was done by the Normans. However, their work was destroyed in 1708 and today only a story remains of the former fortress. Instead of rebuilding the castle, it was decided to move it to another place - and so in the years 1811-1870 a new building began to be built under the leadership of Marquis Donegal, George Chester, and architect Charles Lanyon. Belfast Castle was completed in 1934, a £ 2 million renovation began in 1978, and it was not officially opened to visitors until 1988.
