Stortorget is a triangular square in the center of Lund. Its history dates back to the early Middle Ages, i.e. the beginnings of the city itself. It was a place of trade, popular gatherings and state and church events. Currently, the square is closed to car traffic, you can walk and cycle through it.

According to archaeological research, the square was built in the mid-11th century. It was then a triangular extension of Stora Södergatan Street. In the 12th century, the entire surface of the square was covered with wooden boards, and in the next century it was paved.

The contemporary appearance of Stortorgetto Square is the result of a thorough reconstruction in the early and mid-twentieth century. modern town hall building, designed by the Anshelm Class and recognized as one of his most important works.
