Drottningholm Castle
Local name: Drottningholms slott
Drottningholm is a Renaissance palace built at the end of the 17th century. It is surrounded by baroque and English gardens. It has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The palace is the residence of the Swedish royal family, some of its rooms are available to tourists. It is called the "Swedish Versailles".
The palace complex includes several historic buildings, including The eighteenth-century church designed by Nikodem Tessin the Elder, with a traditional church tapestry, palace theater, which still hosts summer opera concerts, as well as the Chinese Pavilion with a facade decorated with oriental motifs.
From the beginning of its existence, the castle underwent many changes. One of the most important occurred in the early twentieth century, then the building was installed heating, sewerage and running water.
