The Church of Jacob, officially called Santiago y San Juan Bautista is a nineteenth-century temple built of brick and granite in a raw neoclassical style. The main altar is distinguished by a painting by Francisco Rizi depicting Santiago Matamoros. It is also worth paying attention to the "Baptism of Christ", brush by Juan Carreño de Miranda, as well as the beautiful baroque sculpture usually attributed to Pedro Roldán.
In the church you will also find several neoclassical paintings by Mariano Salvador Maell and Francisco Bayeu. The dome is also decorated with interesting 19th-century frescoes. It is also worth paying attention to the rectangular relief depicting Jakub at the Battle of Clavijo.
The church was built by Juan Antonio Cuervo to replace two other temples destroyed during the reign of Józef Bonaparte. Many outstanding works from previous churches were moved here, saving them from destruction or disappearance.
