Plaza Santa Ana

Local name: Plaza Santa Ana

Santa Ana Square is located in the Letras district of Madrid. Here, you can admire historic buildings such as the Spanish Theater (Teatro Español) or Hotel Reina Victoria, as well as sculptures by Pedro Calderón de la Barca and Federico García Lorca. The square is famous for its cervecerias, where you can taste excellent Spanish beers.

The most famous place at the square is "Cervecería Alemana", the favorite place of many famous figures. During his stay in Madrid, her regular visitor was the American writer Ernest Hemingway. Beer was also drunk here by the popular Spanish bullfighter - Luis Miguel González Lucas.

The square was founded on the grounds of the 18th-century Carmelite Order, which was demolished in 1810 at the behest of King Józef Bonaparte, at which time the first fountain was built. Today, the square is teeming with life almost 24 hours a day.
