Plaza de la Villa is a historic square located in the historic center of Madrid. Today tourists visiting this place can admire unusual examples of old architecture, including house and tower of the Lujanes family from the 15th century and a monument in honor of the commander of the Great Armada, Admiral Álvaro de Bazán y Guzmán.
The home of the Lujanes family is an example of the mudejar style popular in Spain at that time, combining gothic elements with elements characteristic of Islamic architecture. Another historic building that is worth paying attention to is the Cisneros house, built at the request of the nephew of Cardinal de Cisneros, to whom it owes its name. The building was built in the 16th century.
The monument of Álvaro de Bazán y Guzmán resembles the figure of the admiral who managed the Spanish fleet during the victorious battle against the French at Ponta Delgada. The bronze statue of the sculptor Mariano Benlliure stood in this place in 1891.
