The Collection of the Ship Model Museum in Madrid was created by Julio Castelo Matrán. The exhibition consists of reproductions of American and European ships from the 17th to 20th century. These are historic, flagship navy units that have participated in battles and other important events.
All models in the Museum of Ship Models in Madrid were made by Julio Castelo Matrán. Each of them is at least a meter long. The materials used in the models are of the highest quality: fine wood for hulls, decks and masts, and bronze for cannons and decorations.
One year before his retirement in 2001, Julio Castelo Matrán received an unexpected Christmas gift: a model ship of Juan Sebastián de Elcano. This first model was the starting point for an impressive collection, which currently consists of 40 models. They have been presented since 2014 at the permanent Museum of Ship Models.
