Museo Casa De La Moneda is a numismatic museum that has gathered a rich collection of antique coins, banknotes and postage stamps. The exhibition shows the history of money since its invention until today. Visitors can see here, among others matrices used for minting coins and items that in the old days were means of payment.
In the Madrid numismatic museum, guests will see how the world without money once looked, will be able to follow the subsequent stages of currency development (from ancient Greece to modern Spain) and learn about different types of coins and images placed on them.
The museum began its operation as early as the eighteenth century. Initially, his collection consisted of engravings, old books as well as coins and medals from the private collection of Francisco Prieto, the founder of the Engraving School, where future employees of the Spanish Mint were trained.
