The headquarters of the Spanish Congress of Deputies is located in the Palacio de las Cortes, a 19th-century building in the neoclassical style. Particularly noteworthy is the vault of the Plenary Hall decorated with paintings by Karol Luis de Ribera. The Conference Room is decorated in the Elizabethan style, it is decorated with reliefs.
The design of the palace was developed by the architect Narciso Pascual Colomer in 1843. On its ground floor there are the most important rooms, namely: the Plenary and Conference Hall and the Room of Ministers. The library designed by the architect Arturo Mélida collected about 210,000 volumes.
Over the centuries, the palace was expanded twice. The first expansion took place
in 1980, the architect Antonio Camara managed the works at that time. In 1994 a competition for another expansion was carried out, the design of Maria Rubert de Ventos, Josep Parceris and Oriol Clos won.
