The Museum de los Caños del Peral is associated with the water supply of Madrid in the early days of the Spanish capital. Noteworthy is its unusual location, because it is located about eight meters underground below Izabela II Square in the lobby of the Ópera metro station. The museum consists of the ruins of an underground gallery, an aqueduct and multimedia presentations.
Archaeological remains from the 16th and 17th centuries. The complex consists of the historic source of Caños del Peral, the Amaniel aqueduct and the Arenal channel. Information panels and companies in the underground amphitheater present in detail the history of Madrid during this period and the hydrographic complex.
This complex supplied water to Madrid until the beginning of the 20th century. An important curiosity about this place is the fact that during the extension of the Madrid metro network, these archaeological remains were discovered and the route planned was significantly changed. On the surface at Izabela II Square there is the fountain de los Caños del Peral.
