Muhba Via Sepulcral Romana is a historic necropolis dating back to Roman times. Here you can see examples of different types of tombstones, such as: stone steles with an inscription or characteristic funeral monuments with a cylindrical cover (cupea). The historic cemetery is supervised by the Barcelona History Museum.
The main axis of the necropolis is the wide road that in the past led from the city in a south-westerly direction. All tombs come from the period from I to III century. At that time, the lands belonging to the Roman Empire strictly banned burial of the dead in cities. Cemeteries were built outside the city walls.
Cupa (Latin for barrel) is the most typical type of tombstone for the Roman Empire. There were two types - with a separate lid and monolithic. In the upper part of the cupy there was a chamber, into which a channel was used to make offerings in the form of various liquids (essential oils, wine, oil), i.e. libations.
