Pantà De Vallvidrera is a water reservoir with a dam, which was founded in the late nineteenth century according to the design of Elies Rogent. Currently it is a monument of water engineering. The area around the reservoir is a well-known recreation area, there is a bar nearby, and you can also use walking routes.
Tourists will also find many other interesting sights, including the former gatehouse with a pink façade and a tunnel through which the electric train route ran at the beginning of the 20th century. It was the first passenger railway of this type in Spain.
The dam was erected to enable the supply of water to the independent municipality of Sarrià at that time. The area around the reservoir along with its banks was cleaned in 2005-2006 in order to eliminate the vegetation overgrowing the pane. It was about protecting natural flora and fauna - a large population of amphibians lives here, including Mediterranean tree frogs.
